About VKC
The Valparaiso
Kennel Club is a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to the advancement of the sport of purebred
dogs. The club is located in Valparaiso, IN, just
south of the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan and the
Indiana Dunes State Park.
Established in the late 1960's, by a group of dedicated
dog fanciers, the Valparaiso Kennel Club was approved by
the
American Kennel Club to hold their first all-breed dog show in
1988, making 2008 their 20th
anniversary!
Our members represent
many years of experience in all phases of purebred dogs
with activities ranging from Conformation to Obedience,
Agility. Water and Herding Trials. Several of our
members are also involved in Therapy Dog work.
The Valparaiso Kennel Club
is
also committed to community involvement. In addition to our annual dog shows held
at the end of the month in June, at the Porter
County Expo Center, we also offer conformation classes and
obedience classes. Through our obedience classes,
VKC assists area dog owners in training their pet to
have good manners but, to also earn a Canine Good
Citizen award upon graduation.
VKC's latest contribution to the
community has been the presentation of 3 bullet proof jackets to
the K-9 Division of the
Porter County Sheriff's Department.
Educational programs,
which are open to the public, have included a
variety of topics such as, caring for the elderly dog.
The Year 2010 In Review

In
2010, the members of the Valparaiso Kennel Club were
very busy! Preparing for the Popcorn Cluster
(back to back all breed dog shows) which included one day of obedience trials, kept us busy not
only in June, but throughout the year. We were also involved in
several local events and supportive of animal welfare
events.

Public
Education Chairperson, Sandra Johnson organized an Evening with Elected State Legislators, with State
Representative Soliday (right) and Senator Charbonneau
(left) in
attendance. The
informal evening discussing proper procedure in
contacting and communicating with elected
representatives, voicing concerns and suggestions, was
well attended by area veterinarians, members of other
clubs and members of the Indiana Council on Animal
Welfare.

September 2, 2010, we were privileged to have Bill
Donahue, DVM, of
Vale Park Animal Hospital, as a guest
speaker. "Dr. Bill" presented an informative
overview of recent advances in detection and treatment
of canine cancer. Those present were treated to an
evening of questions and answers as well as an
opportunity to share personal experience.
Bill
Donahue, DVM

Public Relations Chairperson, Valerie Rosenblum encouraged
Club participation with Century 21 Pace Estates
fundraiser
at Zao's Island on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Pace for
Paws is a fun filled afternoon for fun loving dogs,
along with their owners, to participate in friendly competition.
Silent auction and monetary donations raised money for the
Porter County Animal Control Facility.

Breeder
Referral Chairperson, Carol L. Richardson, worked
closely with Canine Country Club, 3554 Sturdy Road,
Valparsio, Indiana, for the American Kennel Club
recognized "Responsible Dog Owners Day!".
Saturday, September 25, 2010, was a day of celebration
and education for dog owners and those investigating
the possibility of becoming a dog owner. "Woofstock"
was well attended and everyone enjoyed the "frisbie
dog" demonstrations as well as meeting the working
canine officers of Porter County Sherriff's
Department.

Sunday, September 26, 2010, we were pleased to
present a monetary donation to Dr. Bill Donahue of
Vale Park Animal Hospital, for the Valparaiso Police
Department's Canine Officers Gift Fund. The
Crusade for Canine Cops was a fantastic
afternoon enjoyed by several of the members of the
Valparaiso Kennel Club. The "open for view" clinic
had professionals present to answer questions and
promote new products.
It was a wonderful experience!
